OK, I’ve had a few people email me to say they think I hate the Spice Girls. I like the Spice Girls! And I wish them all the best on their reunion!

It’s not that the Spice Girls deserve to be tortured. The point of my email campaign to send the Spice Girls to Guantanamo is to draw attention to the treatment of people refused trial in Guantanamo by the American Government in the name of National Security. Those people don’t deserve to be tortured either. The Spice Girls (and indeed their fans) might appreciate that, I reckon. They’re bolshy, intelligent women, some of whom have done their fair share of ambassadorship for various worthy causes in their time.

If we really wanted to torture the Spice Girls, or kill them off, we could send them to Darfur or Kabul or Baghdad or something! I don’t expect the Spice Girls to actually play in Guantanamo, but they might be interested in using their power to highlight the plight of those who are there against their will, and without fair trial.
