MainStage Versus Nord Stage: Part III

stage2.jpgI now have some real-life experience of combining the Nord Stage with MainStage live, having completed two very different gigs in the past week with this new rig. Generally, my experience has been excellent with both, but particularly with the Nord. I have found that if the Nord can do it at all, it can generally do it better than MainStage, both in terms of sound and usability. Pianos, electric pianos, clavinets, organs, and even a lot of synth sounds are preferable from the Nord in a live setting, as latency is avoided, and the onboard controls make for simple editing on the fly.

My setup time is greatly reduced from the old 2 keyboard rig I had, and though there were a few train crashes I’d rather not talk about, they were all due to my inexperience with the new system. MainStage seems pretty stable now, after the latest upgrade, and it didn’t cause any problems at all, and the Nord Stage’s little “master” section can be put to good use for MainStage. Ultimately, I do believe that this is the best and most flexible portable rig out there at the moment.

Are you still using Mainstage while performing? I’m really looking to buy one, so I really wonder if it’s stable and reliable when live performing.

    Thanks a lot
